Grain and food ingredients firm Scoular recently formed a new subsidiary, Petsource by Scoular, that will develop, freeze-dry and package high-protein pet food ingredients, the company announced in a release Tuesday.

“The name ‘Petsource’ signifies that we are redefining what start-to-finish looks like in pet food ingredient manufacturing,” Amy Patterson, general manager of Petsource, said in a statement. “Petsource will be a one-stop shop for unparalleled levels of safety, quality, and reliability across the freeze-dried supply chain.”

The new subsidiary is currently in the process of building a $50 million manufacturing plant in Seward, NE. Once completed, the 150,000-sq-ft structure in Seward will house areas for meat processing, research and development, freeze drying, and packaging. About 100 new jobs will be created when the facility opens in early 2020.

Petsource also named Jon Heussner as its Director of Operations on Tuesday. In his role, Heussner will lead the manufacturing site in Seward. Earlier in his career, he held leadership positions in operations, project management, and engineering at Conagra Brands, Tyson Foods, Hain Celestial Seasonings, and Dean Foods.

“As a lifelong pet owner with years of supply chain experience, it is a privilege to work with the great team assembled by Petsource to manufacture safe and high-quality products,” Heussner said in the release.

Last month, Scoular inaugurated a new grain elevator in Richmond, VA to expand its ability to export products around the world.
