Nestle Purina Plans $115M Expansion of Missouri Plant

Pet food and pet care products maker Nestle Purina revealed plans Thursday to inject $115 million into its Bloomfield, MO cat litter manufacturing plant by 2020 to expand the site’s production and packaging capabilities, the company announced in a press release posted by the Missouri Department of Economic Development.

Under the plan, the Swiss-owned company will add 110,000 sq ft of space to the Tidy Cats litter production site in Bloomfield to boost production of Tidy Cats LightWeight cat litter and Tidy Cats scoop cat litter. Purina’s facility currently occupies 500,000 sq ft.

“Tidy Cats is a significant growth driver for Purina’s U.S. business as more and more pet owners demand a trusted, high-performing litter product,” said the vice president and general manager of the firm’s Litter division, Vicki Felker, in a statement. “Purina is proud to produce one of the best performing cat litter brands on the market at our Bloomfield factory.”

Sales of Tidy Cat rose by 18% during the last four years, according to the company. Nestle Purina has made a number of investments in its manufacturing operations in recent years, including $475 million in 2018 to make improvements at its plants across the U.S.

30 new jobs are expected to be added to the plant’s headcount once the project reaches completion in mid-2020.
