Fire crews were called to the Pinnacle Pellet plant in Smithers, BC last Friday morning after a blaze ignited in a piece of drying equipment in the facility, several local news organizations reported.

About 25 firefighters responded to the site after receiving word about the fire at about 3:30 a.m., according to coverage by The Interior News. “What appeared to have happened, a spark had gotten into the system and tripped the fire system to allow the sprinkler system to operate,” Smithers Fire Chief Keith Stecko told the news website. Officials said no injuries were logged during the incident, said a report by MyBulkleyLakesNow.com.

Operated by a limited partnership between Pinnacle Pellet and West Fraser Timber Co., the Smithers plant became operational in November 2018. The facility was slated to reach its full capacity of 125,000 mt/yr by the third quarter of Fiscal Year 2019.
