Wood Pellet Producer Enviva to Build $60M Port Terminal

August 8, 2019

Industrial wood pellet manufacturer Enviva Holdings plans to invest $60 million in the construction of a new terminal at the Port of Pascagoula to expand its shipping capabilities to clients under long-term contracts in Europe and Asia. The company announced in a release Tuesday that it entered into a lease with the Jackson County Port Authority for a Bayou Casotte Harbor property.

“The Port of Pascagoula is a key asset for global commerce and an economic engine for Mississippi,” John Keppler, Enviva’s chief executive officer, said in a statement. The executive described the planned facility as “[a] critical component of our supply chain” that will enable Enviva “to meet increasing demand from our Asian, European, and Caribbean customers.”

Once operational, the port terminal will be capable of handling 3 million mt/yr of wood pellets and supporting Panamax-sized ships.

Construction on the site is expected to reach completion in the latter half of next year. 30 new full-time jobs will be created with the opening of the facility. While work on the Port of Pascagoula site is underway, the company will also be constructing a pellet plant in Lucedale, MS.
