Cone Drive Turns 85

At a time when many American companies are moving their manufacturing operations internationally or shutting doors altogether, Cone Drive Gearing Solutions is marching triumphantly into its 85th year of operations. Cone Drive, a manufacturer of gearing products and developer of custom engineered gearing solutions, has long been known for its double-enveloping worm gear, a durable and precise design that produces higher-torque in a smaller package. Eager to explore a new era of industry, the company is developing products for applications in emerging market segments like solar and renewable energy.

“It’s remarkable, after 85 years, that we’re still finding new and relevant applications for our double-enveloping gear design,” said Bob Nichols, Cone Drive product manager. “We are also experiencing more demand for our engineers’ involvement at the front-end of projects, designing and integrating custom gearing solutions for highly-specialized applications—from precise satellite positioning to demanding conveying applications.”

While Cone Drive’s history of innovation, unique manufacturing processes, and solid customer relationships help explain the company’s enduring success, it continues its forward focus—this time with the launch of a new logo and brand identity system. “Our 85th anniversary seemed like the perfect time to communicate our positive momentum with a brand overhaul,” explains Nichols. “Cone Drive Gearing Solutions reflects our progression into other types of gearing products to complement double-enveloping worm gearing.”

Later this year Cone Drive is also launching its new Web site (www.conedrive.com) with improved features and functionality.
