Fire crews from eight area fire departments responded to a blaze at a Meadowland Farmers Cooperative grain storage facility in Walnut Grove, MN last week, the Marshall Independent reported.

Called to the scene last Sunday afternoon, firefighters arrived to find a conveyor system underneath the building on fire, Walnut Grove Fire Chief Andy Foster told the newspaper. The conveying equipment, used to transport corn, is located in a 10 ft by 10 ft tunnel under the site.

Because the space was difficult for fire crews to access, firefighters chose to flood the tunnel with water to douse the flames. Chief Foster said in the Independent’s coverage that the facility was storing 5 million bushels of grain when the blaze was reported. Emergency personnel remained on scene into Sunday night to observe the situation.

No injuries were reported during the incident. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
