Koch Foods to Open $50M Feed Mill and Storage Facility

Food processing firm Koch Foods is moving forward on plans to open a $50 million poultry feed mill and grain storage and distribution site in Attalla, AL to support the company’s newly-expanded processing plant in the state, Alabama Gov. Kay Ivey announced in a press release Tuesday.

Koch Foods recently held a groundbreaking ceremony in Attalla attended by the governor and local leaders. Once operational, the feed mill will have a staff of 28 workers with a combined payroll of about $1 million. The company said the facility will feature a number of advanced technologies to boost efficiency.

“We are very excited about building one of the most technologically innovative grain storage facilities in the world,” Koch Senior Vice President of Fresh Operations Matthew Herman said in a statement. “We continue to expand our business in Alabama and are thankful for the cooperative environment between business and government in the state to get things accomplished.”

The rail-served, 130-acre Attalla facility will be capable of storing over 1 million bushels of corn. A fourth processing line was added to the firm’s Gadsen, AL plant as part of a recent $80 million expansion project

“Koch Foods already had significant operations in Alabama, and this new investment will magnify the company’s economic inpact on the state,” Gov. Ivey said in the release. “This project adds a robust new dimension to the industrial sector in the state and permits us to strengthen our longstanding relationship with a major employer.”

Construction has started on the Attalla site. The facility is expected to become operational in fall 2021. Koch Foods will begin hiring a management team for the site in the first quarter of next year and interview candidates for production positions in early 2021.
