Safely discharging hazardous materials from storage drums is frequently a problem. One recent CPS solution is a drum inverter inside a glovebox isolator for a manufacturing process involving a hazardous powder. The drum inverter allows the operator to safely de-lid the drum, dock to a cone, automatically invert the drum, and dock to a discharge nozzle. The system monitors the weight of the drum to confirm complete discharge. The entire process takes place within a sealed environment, protecting the operator from any type of exposure. The isolator is designed to allow maximum operator access to the drum within the isolator. The system includes safety interlocks to halt operation if any gloveport is in use.
