Size Reduction at the Powder Show

The 2016 Powder Show kicks off on Tuesday, May 3 at the Donald E. Stephens Convention Center in Rosemont, IL. This year’s event will be the 40th anniversary of the inaugural Powder Show in 1976.

The highly anticipated Powder Show Conference program is crafted with input from an advisory board that is loaded with industry experts. Designed for new and experienced processing professionals the flexible conference program provides the in-depth technical training needed to brush up on the fundamentals or tackle more advanced topics. The program includes two sessions on size reduction.

On Tuesday, May 3, from 3:15-4:45pm, Stephen Miranda, Sales Director – Grinding and Dispersing North America, NETZSCH Premier Technologies LLC, will lead the "What's New in Tech" session: Nanotechnology – Advancements in Size Reduction. In his session, Miranda will:

• Examine methods of size reduction into the nanometer range
• Compare dry and wet grinding
• Evaluate the new dry processing technology
• Explain the advantage of additives

On Wednesday, May 4, from 1:30-3pm, Jim Davis, President/Owner, Powder Processing Solutions, formerly with Procter & Gamble, will lead a Technical Workshop entitled, "Grinding and Milling: What’s What and When to Use It."

In his session, Davis will discuss the following:

• Grinding basics – what is happening on a particle level
• Impact breakage vs. fatigue breakage
• Survey of many different categories of grinders, specific grinder types and when they are most applicable
• Fine and ultra-fine milling, both wet and dry
• Cryogenic grinding and closed loop grinding systems
