Explosion Reported at Particleboard Plant in Michigan

Emergency personnel were called to the ARAUCO particleboard plant in Grayling, MI on Thursday morning after a fire and explosion were reported at the facility, according to the Grayling Department of Public Safety.
After responding to the site at about 10 a.m., crews managed to put out the flames within 10 minutes. Firefighters remained on scene for about two hours.
“The reported incident started with a fire in a dryer, which lead ot the explosion. Upon first responders’ arrival, it was determined that there were no injuries and all contractors and ARAUCO personnel were accounted for,” the department said in a Facebook post. “One firefighter was transported due to undisclosed reasons.”
ARAUCO opened the 820,000-sq-ft particleboard plant in Grayling in April 2019 to produce decorative wood panel products for furniture and home interior applications, according to its website. The company said the facility is “one of the world’s largest” of its kind.
