Pneumatic Conveying at the Powder Show

The 2016 Powder & Bulk Solids Conference & Exhibition (Powder Show) kicks off on Tuesday, May 3 at the Donald E. Stephens Convention Center in Rosemont, IL. This year’s event will be the 40th anniversary of the inaugural Powder Show in 1976.

The highly anticipated Powder Show Conference program is crafted with input from an advisory board that is loaded with industry experts. Designed for new and experienced processing professionals the flexible conference program provides the in-depth technical training needed to brush up on the fundamentals or tackle more advanced topics. Pneumatic conveying is one of the main themes of the Conference.

On Tuesday, May 3, from 10:15– 11:45am, Mark Jones, director, TUNRA Bulk Solids, professor of engineering & built environment, University of Newcastle, will lead a technical workshop called, “Successful Pneumatic Conveying Design to Reach Full Potential.” Pneumatic conveying offers few visual signs to help engineers understand what drives system performance. This session will explore dos and don’ts for conveyor design while taking into consideration the layout of your factory floor to help maximize your system’s output and efficiency.

On Tuesday afternoon from 1:30-3:00, Jack Hilbert, principal engineering consultant, Pneumatic Conveying Consultants LLC, will lead a technical workshop called, “Troubleshooting Pneumatic Conveying – Tabletop Model Demonstration.” Pneumatic conveying can be challenging with respect to selecting the right system and choosing the right key performance parameters, such as pipe diameter, gas volume, and pressure. Bring with you your biggest pneumatic conveying headaches so the instructor can demonstrate the best way to troubleshoot and get your process back on track.

On Thursday, May 5, from 1:30-3:30pm, Hilbert will lead a “Facilitated Pneumatic Conveying Systems Tour” to help attendees discover the latest equipment and speak directly with vendors about what’s new at the 2016 Powder Show.

After the tour, Hilbert will lead a technical workshop, “Dilute vs. Dense Phase Pneumatic Conveying,” in which he will discuss:
• The difference between the two
• Testing the conveyability of a bulk solid
• When is one better to use than the other
• When to absolutely not use dilute phase
