Instruments and consumables supplier Thermo Fisher Scientific recently announced the opening of the world’s biggest manufacturing facility for single-use technology in Lebanon, TN. The company announced this month that the new, 400,000-sq-ft plant will enable the firm to meet swift increases in demand for bioprocessing materials used in the production of vaccines and other therapies.

“Customers depend on our best-in-class technologies, services, and expertise. This continued investment in bioprocessing manufacturing allows us to better serve them in delivering greater supply through scalable solutions,” Daniella Cramp. Senior vice president and president, Bioproduction for Thermo Fisher Scientific, said in a release. “As the largest single-use manufacturing site in Thermo Fisher’s network and one of the largest in the world, the Lebanon facility near Nashville enables customers to bring medicines to patients faster than ever before.”

Thermo Fisher’s Lebanon site will produce customizable, single-use BioProcess Containers and fluid transfer assembly systems that are used by biopharmaceutical companies. The new location also includes 92,000 sq ft of clean room space and a production line dedicated to manufacturing the company’s Thermo Scientific DynaDrive Bioreactor.

About 1,400 new jobs in engineering, procurement, quality, and other areas will be created through the investment.

“Tennessee is emerging as a global leader in biotechnology, and new investment from Thermo Fisher Scientific will bring even more innovation to the region,” Sen. Marsha Blackburn said in a statement. “This new facility will provide high-paying jobs to Tennesseans and create cutting-edge technology to keep our research and development communities thriving.”
