Specialty chemicals firm Lubrizol Corporation is investing $60 million in its LifeSciences business to develop new products, expand the capacity of production sites, and to further cGMP manufacturing, improving the company’s foothold in markets for excipients, polymers, drug formulation and manufacturing, and medical device manufacturing, the Cleveland, OH-based company announced Tuesday.

Under the effort, Lubrizol will add commercial drug product manufacturing capabilities to its particle sciences facility in Bethlahem, PA.

“Leveraging the company’s knowledge in complex formulations and production, the facility will be adjacent to the existing development and clinical trial manufacturing site, offering customers a seamless flow from development through manufacturing,” a company press release said. “This new space, which is expected to be operational in the fourth quarter of 2017 will accommodate both sterile and non-sterile products, highly potent compounds, and organic solvent processing.”

The company is also making an investment in its global facilities involved in excipients, polymers, and contract manufacturing to improve quality and efficiency. Lubrizol’s effort will include investments in design, manufacturing, and sterilization technologies for manufacturing interventional catheters and long-term implantable devices.

“We have significantly enhanced our capabilities through the combination of strong polymer technology, application know-how and world-class manufacturing,” Deb Langer, vice president of Lubrizol Personal Home and Health Care, in a statement. “As healthcare companies look for total solution providers, we continue to invest in the right areas to provide valuable offerings where our customers are experiencing the most growth.”
