Grain trading and merchandising firm Hansen-Mueller is planning to open a bagging facility for animal feed and pet food products in Fremont, NE, the company said in a Feb. 20 press release.

Recently purchasing a 60,000-sq-ft facility in Fremont, the company said its “multi-million dollar investment” will create 5 to 10 jobs in its first phase. Hansen-Mueller also operates a processing mill in Fremont, according to the company’s website.

“We are happy to bring an expansion of our current operations in Fremont and become a part of this business community. We located an existing building that met our needs and were able to acquire that facility,” said Jack Hansen, founder and president of Hansen-Mueller Co., in a statement.

In October 2016, the company announced plans to acquire eight facilities from Interstate Commodities Inc., including two sites located in Nebraska.

“The operations will include state-of-the-art conventional and organic bagging lines for animal and pet foods packaged under a number of well-known brand names, several private-label companies, and Hansen-Mueller’s own branded products,” the company’s release said. “The lines are designed to ensure that the integrity of the organic lines remains intact, which will deliver premium organic products to customers.”

Kathy Butler, a Fremont resident, was named facility manager of the new operation.

Hansen-Mueller also operates a feed grain processing plant in Toledo, OH and three country elevators in Kansas, the company’s website said.
