Suit Filed Against Mars Over Alleged Metal in Skittles
June 1, 2018
A complaint was filed on May 23 in the 3rd Judicial Court of Michigan against Mars Inc. and W.M. Wrigley Jr. Co. by a woman who said she broke several teeth after chewing Skittles candies that were allegedly tainted with metal pieces, Legal NewsLine reported Friday.
The case (2:18-vc-11632-BAF-SDD) targets the candy makers for several issues, including breached negligence, breach of warranty, and strict liability. A co-plaintiff in the case, Hermann Rooks, bought the Skittles in Detriot on Jan. 31, 2017 and gave them to Antionette Rooks.
Antionette Rooks claims that she felt a hard object when eating the Skittles, discovered a metal object in another piece of the candy, the legal news publication’s coverage said. Several days later, she was told by a dentist that two teeth had broken and her gums were damaged.
In addition to harm to her teeth and gums, the woman said she suffered headaches on a daily basis as a result of the incident.
The plaintiffs are seeking to gain a judgement totaling more than $75,000.
