Firefighters were sent to the Global Tungsten & Powders (GTP) production plant around 9 a.m. Thursday after an explosion was reported at the facility, according to NBC News affiliate WETM.

Several people were injured in the incident, and some were transported to an area hospital, the station’s coverage said. The explosion reportedly involved hydrogen.

GTP, a subsidiary of The Plansee Group, manufactures refractory metal powders, including tungsten, tungsten carbide, molybdenum, and cobalt. The firm also operates production sites in Finland and the Czech Republic.

This January, Powder & Bulk Solids reported that (GTP) entered into an agreement to acquire Indianapolis-based tungsten composites and components maker Mi-Tech Tungsten Metals. Terms of the transaction were not revealed.
