Metalysis Starts Up New Metal Alloy Powder Plant in UK

British additive manufacturing powder manufacturer Metalysis is in the process of starting up its new, industrial-scale production plant in Wath upon Dearne, UK for metal alloy powders used in additive manufacturing, a company press release announced Thursday. 

Located at the firm’s Materials Manufacturing Centre, the new facility, known as Generation 4 or Gen4, will use a solid-state, modular, electrochemical process to produce “tens-to-hundreds of tonnes per annum” of niche- and master alloys. Metalysis said it the site has been turned over to its Operations unit after the site completed hot commissioning, trial runs, and optimization. 

“Gen4 enables Metalysis to commercially produce a demand-driven product mix of titanium alloys; master alloys including Scandium-Aluminide […]; compositionally complex alloys including High Entropy alloys; magnet materials; high temperature materials; and Platinum Group Metal alloys,” the firm said in the release. 

The modular nature of the alloy production technology developed by Metalysis enables the company to supply customers with a range of order quantities. 

Metalysis said it raised £25 million, or about $32 million, to complete the project.
