Metal Powders Firm to Open $9M Plant in Pennsylvania

U.K.-based non-ferrous metal powders producer Makin Metal Powders Ltd plans to invest $9 million to establish its first manufacturing site in the U.S. in Lawrence Township, PA, according to a recent announcement by Pennsylvania Gov. Tom Wolf.

“We are very excited to be expanding our operations into the U.S. because many customers throughout the Americas have been urging us to take this step so that we can further build on our already excellent reputation for service and value, and support them from a ‘local’ base,” said Makin Metal Powders’ managing director, Jonathan Hood, in a statement.

The 75,000-sq-ft facility will be located in the Clearfield County Business Park in Lawrence Township and have a headcount of about 40 workers when it becomes operational. Makin Metal Powders obtained a $25,150 grant through the state’s Department of Community of Economic Development (DCED) and was encouraged to apply for a $7.25 million low interest loan from the Pennsylvania Economic Development Authority.

A GRINM company, Makin Metal Powders describes itself as the “one of the largest European producers” of copper and copper alloy products. The firm currently operates a 10,000-sq-m production site in Rochdale, U.K.
