A contract manufacturer that produces Jimmy Dean brand sausage announced Monday that 29,028 lbs of frozen ready-to-eat sausage are being voluntarily recalled after string-like pieces of metal were uncovered by several customers who purchased packages of the product.

Jimmy Dean said in a press release that it is working with the Owingsville, KY-based company, CTI Foods LLC, to monitor the recall and provide assistance in coordinating with the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA).

The USDA’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) received a notification on December 10 that five customers found metal in the products, according to the agency. No reports of adverse reactions from consuming the sausages have been logged.

The impacted products include 2845 cases of Jimmy Dean Heat n’ Serve Original Sausage Links that were produced at one plant on August 4 this year. Cases will have the lot numbers A638216800 or A638216801. 24 oz Packages in the cases have the establishment code M19085 or P19085 and a Jan. 31, 2019 “use by” date.

CTI Foods produces dehydrated beans, sauces and dressings, soups, side dishes, and protein products.
