FLSmidth Closes Acquisition of Sandvik Mining Systems

Cement and minerals equipment and services provider FLSmidth has completed its acquisition of the Sandvik Mining Systems projects unit as it assumed ownership of assets in South Africa, the Copenhagen, Denmark-based firm announced in a press release Thursday.

“With the completion of the South African assets we have added references, local expertise, and improved ability to deliver complete solutions to our Sub-Saharan customers. We welcome our new colleagues and customers to FLSmidth,” Manfred Schaffer, group executive vice president of FLSmidth’s minerals division.

The transaction expands FLSmidth’s offerings of continuous surface mining and minerals handling technologies and strengthens the firm’s core minerals business.

“By integrating the mining systems projects business into its offerings, FLSmidth closes the gap and covers a wider range of the full mining value chain from the primary crushing point in the mine and the transport from pit to plant all the way through the minerals processing plant to the tailings handling,” the firm’s release said.

FLSmidth said it will continue to serve Sandvik customers by fulfilling existing orders, project management services for on-going projects, and providing parts and services for equipment that is in place.

The company announced it was acquiring Sandvik Mining System’s project business in July 2017.
