Two workers were injured in an apparent dust explosion and fire Wednesday afternoon at the Metal-Matic Inc. metal processing plant in Minneapolis, MN, local news organizations reported.
Fire crews put down the flames by 3:45 p.m. and ensured that the building was evacuated safely, the Minneapolis Star-Tribune reported.
Minneapolis Fire Department Assistant Fire Chief Bryan Tyner told NBC News affiliate KARE that the explosion occurred in a metal dust collector. The fire department said in a tweet that the victims received “significant injuries” during the incident.
A worker at the site told the Star-Tribune that the explosion and fire happened in a shed as a shift change was about to occur.
