Conveying Equipment Orders Drop in May

Decrease follows a slight increase in April

The Conveyor Equipment Manufacturers Association (CEMA) reported that its May 2023 booked orders decreased by 12.99% when compared to May 2022 and by 3.33% compared to April 2023. April 2023 booked orders had increased 0.85% compared to March 2023.

CEMA also reported that May 2023 booked orders for bulk handling equipment decreased 6.03% compared to April 2023. May 2023 booked orders for unit handling equipment decreased 2.22% when compared to April 2023.

CEMA’s May 2023 billed sales (shipments) decreased by 14.74% compared to May 2022, but increased 0.23% compared to April 2023. This contrasts with the April 2023 decrease of 19.03% when compared to March 2023.

May 2023 billed sales for bulk handling equipment increased 1.99% when compared to April 2023, which follows a 14.93% decrease for April 2023 vs. March 2023. May 2023 billed sales for unit handling equipment decreased 0.36% when compared to April 2023. The billed sales for unit handling’s decrease compares to a decrease of 20.32% for April 2023 vs. March 2023.
