KSU Bulk Solids Courses Announced
KSU Bulk Solids Innovation Center

The K-State Bulk Solids Innovation Center announces two upcoming bulk solids courses.

International bulk solids expert Dr. Richard Farnish will lead “Storage and Flow of Bulk Solids,” covering important topics related to powder and bulk solid flow in bins, hoppers, and chutes. Dr. Farnish, Wolfson Centre, University of Greenwich, has over 25 years experience in bulk solids, and teaches the science of and technologies for handling powders and granular materials.

Participants will participate in a full-scale test laboratory practical session on bulk solids handling. By attending the course, participants will be able to:

•    Understand flow properties and problems for powders and bulk solids
•    Design a bin/hopper, chute, and feeder
•    Implement trouble shooting procedures related to flow problems
•    Utilize DEM (Discrete Element Method) to study flow problems

Those responsible for designing, improving, or troubleshooting powder and bulk solids handling systems, such as engineers, operators, managers, technicians, and R&D scientists and engineers are encouraged to attend. The course is appropriate for new employees, as well as those who want to increase their knowledge and experience. This course is geared towards the following industries:

•    Pharmaceutical
•    Plastics
•    Chemical
•    Mineral
•    Food
•    Grain and Feed

The course will take place November 8-10, 2016. The cost is $1500 (discounts available to multiple registrants from same organization and scholarships available to educational entities).

The K-State Bulk Solids Innovation Center is also offering a “Refresher Course on Bulk Solids Handling.”

This comprehensive course provides theory and applied instruction on various bulk solids handling, storage, and flow concepts. Students will participate in a full-scale test laboratory practical session of bulk solids handling, focusing on dilute and dense phase pneumatic conveying.

By attending this course, participants will:

•    Design a bin, chute, and feeder
•    Design a pneumatic conveying system
•    Understand the problems related to bulk solids handling
•    Understand the trouble shooting procedures related to bulk solids handling

This course is ideal for new employees to the bulk solids industry or those looking to refresh their knowledge. Employees, managers, and supervisors and research and development scientists and engineers in the following industries are encouraged to attend:

•    Pharmaceutical
•    Plastics
•    Chemical
•    Mineral
•    Food
•    Grain and Feed

This course will take place January 24-27, 2017. The cost is $1500 (discounts available to multiple registrants from same organization and scholarships available to educational entities).
