The American Chemistry Council (ACC) supports bipartisan legislation that has been introduced by Congressmen Dusty Johnson (R-S.D.) and Jim Costa (D-CA) that will help the trucking industry deliver for businesses and consumers. 
 
“Congressmen Johnson and Costa have introduced a sensible solution for helping to untangle the nation’s supply chain problems and strengthening the US economy,” said Chris Jahn, president and CEO of ACC. “This bill removes numerous regulatory barriers that will make it easier for truckers to do their job – delivering critical products across the country.”

The Safer Highways and Increased Performance for Interstate Trucking (SHIP IT) Act contains many reforms that will help recruit and retain drivers, while maximizing the efficiency of the country’s trucking network without creating new regulations or federal spending. 
 
Over the last several years, ACC members have experienced significant challenges due to constraints in the trucking industry, including cancelled bookings, increased rates, and longer transit times. These have resulted in reduced productivity, increased transportation costs, and lost business. 
 
Chemical manufacturers are concerned that constraints in the trucking industry could hinder future growth and investments. The expansion of chemical production in the US is driving increased transportation demands. ACC estimates that 370,000 additional truck shipments will be needed annually by 2032 to transport chemicals produced in the US.  
 
“These regulatory reforms are vital to meeting the current and future transportation needs of our industry, as well as the farmers, manufacturers, and energy producers who depend on the business of chemistry,” said Jahn. “We strongly urge Congress to pass this legislation as soon as possible.”
