SOCMA Commends 17 Member Facilities for Superior EHS&S Performance
September 26, 2012
The Society of Chemical Manufacturers and Affiliates (SOCMA) recognized 17 member facilities that have qualified for the ChemStewards Excellence Tier by exceeding key performance standards for the association’s environmental, health, safety, and security (EHS&S) program.
Seven facilities are new to the Excellence Tier:
* Deltech Corp. (Baton Rouge, LA)
* ESCO Co. LLC (Meskegon, MI)
* Gabriel Performance Products LLC (Ashtabula, OH)
* KMCO (Port Arthur, TX)
* Noramco Inc. (Wilmington, DE)
* Siegfried USA Inc. (Pennsville, NJ)
* South Coast Terminals LP (Houston, TX)
“We commend these companies and the effort they have made to achieve this status,” said ChemStewards director J. Holland Jordan, Ph.D. “As I look at this list of new members to the Excellence Tier, it proves that small chemical facilities, which may not have the resources that larger companies have, and those that may struggle at first to meet the criteria, can optimize their performance and improve their facilities over time through hard work and dedication to the ChemStewards program.”
ChemStewards is an industry-developed EHS&S program designed for the batch, custom, and specialty chemical industry. It’s based on a three-tier system with key performance requirements per tier with increasing levels of difficulty. Tier One is known as Fundamental, and Tier Two is Enhanced Performance – the standard tier for ChemStewards participants. To qualify for Excellence, or Tier Three, facilities must sign core principles, complete security requirements, meet specific metrics obligations and requirements, have at least one documented management review meeting and complete a third-party verification of management systems at the Enhanced Performance (Tier Two) level.
To maintain their ranking, facilities must sustain EHS&S performance metrics at or above the Excellence criteria. Read the ChemStewards White Paper
