Bioplastics Firm to Build New $29M Manufacturing Plant

Bioplastics supplier NANTRenewables is committing $29 million to erect a new production facility at the SeaPoint Industrial Terminal Complex in Savannah, GA, a recent release issued by Georgia Gov. Brian P. Kemp announced.

The location will produce biogenic renewable mineral plastic enhancers that are used to improve the performance, lower cost, and reduce the carbon footprint of finished products. NANTRenewables’ biogenic material is used in a range of products like plants, cups, straws, cutlery, and trays. Several value-added products are also produced for the food, agriculture, and pharmaceutical industries.

“We selected SeaPoint for our new biogenic fillers and bioplastics manufacturing facility because of our shared values focused on sustainability as well as the site’s development-ready network of infrastructure, including roads, rail access, sea access, and nearby utility connections at this impressive industrial complex,” Harold Meherg, a senior executive at NANTRenewables, said in a release. “We look forward to building our newest plant in Savannah.”

134 manufacturing jobs will be created as a result of the firm’s investment. Hiring is slated to commence in 2022.
