Explosions, Fire Reported at Chemical Plant

Residents were being asked to shelter in place

Multiple explosions and a massive fire were reported at the Carus Chemical plant in La Salle, IL Wednesday morning.

Large clouds of smoke were reported after the explosion and fire, which, according to local police, started in a shipping container.  

No injuries were reported and all employees were safely evacuated. Multiple fire departments were fighting the blaze. Residents were being asked to shelter in place.

According to its website, Carus Chemical is a family-owned manufacturer of chemical products used for municipal water treatment, wastewater and air purification, and soil remediation.
