Dust Collector Destroyed in Blaze at Briggs & Stratton Plant
Firefighters were sent to the Sherrill, NY manufacturing site last Wednesday after a fire ignited in the equipment and connected ducts.
Firefighters were called to a fire at the Briggs & Stratton manufacturing plant in Sherrill, NY on October 5 and discovered flames in an exterior dust collection system upon arrival.
Sent to the scene around 6 p.m., crews were able to control the flames in about 20 minutes, according to a post on the Sherrill-Kenwood Volunteer Fire Department Facebook page. Several other fire departments were dispatched to the location to provide mutual aid.
“The bulk of the fire was contained to a dust collection unit outside the building and some duct work leading into the building,” the fire department wrote. “There were no injuries reported.”
Fire officials told the Rome Sentinel that the dust collector was destroyed during the incident and the vents were damaged. An investigation into the cause of the fire is underway.
Briggs & Stratton is a supplier of power generation solutions, pressure washers, lawn and garden, turf care, and job site products.
