Midwest Hemp Technology is holding an open house on November 3 to mark the official opening of the Augusta, KS facility.

Industrial hemp fiber and grain products manufacturer Midwest Hemp Technology is scheduled to hold an open house event on November 3 to mark the opening of its new hemp processing plant in Augusta, KS.

The 4-acre location houses storage facilities and other structures used in the production of hemp grain food products, hurd, and fiber.

Midwest Hemp Technology sources hemp fiber and grain from producers in Kansas and elsewhere in the Midwest. The company’s products are used in the textiles, paper, biopolymers, biofuels, and food industries.

Opening the facility will provide additional opportunities for Kansas farmers. The number of hemp growing licenses issued by the Kansas Department of Agriculture went from 218 in 2020 to 81 in 2021 as producers faced a lack of local processing capacity and an uncertain market, Wichita, KS-based NPR station WMUW reported. Most of the state’s existing hemp processing facilities are focused on CBD extraction.
