Cannabinoid nutritional supplements manufacturer Blue Sky Processing plans to open a new hemp processing plant in Beaufort County, South Carolina that will focus on large-scale extraction of cannabidiol (CBD) and other cannabinoids, the South Carolina Department of Commerce announced in a recent release.

The company will invest $2.5 million to renovate an existing facility and acquire processing and analytical equipment. About 16 new jobs are expected to be created. Blue Sky Processing’s new facility will participate in the South Carolina Department of Agriculture’s Hemp Pilot Program.

“We are thrilled to have the support from the S.C. Department of Commerce and the Department of Agriculture’s Hemp Pilot Program. The future looks very optimistic for hemp cultivators and manufacturers throughout the state,” the firm’s president, Jennifer Pfuhl, said in a statement.

Blue Sky Processing will begin hiring in the first quarter of 2019. The plant is scheduled to come on line during the same period.
