Cannabidiol (CBD) wellness product manufacturer Southern Tier Hemp recently entered into an agreement to acquire a 100,000-sq-ft building in Johnson City, NY for a new hemp processing facility, the company announced in a press release Tuesday. Formerly used as a printing plant by newspaper company Gannett, the site will also house the hemp products firm’s headquarters.

“New York’s Southern Tier is a phenomenal area to harvest and produce our products at our new facility. It’s an ideal location for our headquarters to cultivate CBD products that generates new agriculture opportunities and brings jobs to the region,” Southern Tier Hemp Co-Founder and Chief Executive Officer Michael Falcone said in a statement.

Once completed, the new facility will be the largest hemp processing facility in New York State, according to the company. Southern Tier Hemp will develop and produce its hemp-based products from the site, including body care creams and lotions, supplements, and super foods.

“New York State is at the forefront with its support for the emerging hemp industry,” Falcone said. “We envision years of growth for the market that will elevate our business in the Southern Tier region as the hemp category continues to advance with individuals experiencing the benefits of CBD products.”

Southern Tier Hemp plans to have the new facility up and running in time for the CBD hemp harvest this year. New York State awarded the firm a grant totaling $650,000 that will go toward construction costs.

About 100 new jobs are expected to be created through the project.
