Worker Dies in Food Processing Plant Mixing Area

A 44-year-old worker was killed in the mixing area of a Michigan food processing plant on Monday, multiple news outlets reported.

An Associated Press article said Curtis Fay, who was employed cleaning machines at the Burnette Foods plant in East Jordan, MI, fell into a mixer area of the plant. First responders were called to the plant at about 11:30 p.m. The man was pronounced dead at the scene.

East Jordan police chief Terrence McDonnell told MLive.com that the fatality appears to be an accident. Police and the Michigan Occupational Safety and Health Administration are investigating the incident.

John Pelizzari, chief operating officer of Burnette Foods told the Associated Press that the company is working with investigators and described the incident as “a tragedy.”

Burnette Foods produces fruit and vegetable products, juices, and sauces.
