There were 11 recalls by the USDA's Food Safety and Inspection Service. The number of recalls has grown each of the last two months, with September at 10 and August at 7.

Out of the 11 recalls, 2 were due to misbranding and undeclared allergens; 3 were recalled without benefit of inspection; 1 for without benefit of reinspection; 3 for Listeria and 2 for being ineligible for import.

There were no recalls in October for foreign matter contamination or for E coli contamination.

Misbranding/undeclared allergens

  • Aunt Kitty's Foods Inc., Vineland, NJ, is recalling approximately 15,728 lb of canned ready-to-eat chicken pot pie soup products due to misbranding and undeclared soy, an allergen. This affects 15-oz. metal cans containing "Hanover Soup Classics Chicken Pot Pie" with lot code P864 4893 23241950 and "Best By Sep 2026" both printed on top of the can.

  • A public health alert was issued for Plenus Group Inc. ready-to-eat stuffed pepper soup with meatballs product due to misbranding and undeclared egg, an allergen. The health alert affects 32-oz. clear cups of "R Kitchen Stuffed Pepper Soup with Meatballs" with a Best By: 11/27/23 date and lot code 048480 printed on the lid.

Without benefit of inspection

  • Q'Delicia, Jacksonville, FL, is recalling approximately 639 lb of ready-to-eat meat and poultry empanada products that were produced without the benefit of federal inspection. Impacted products include 1.25 lb and 6.25 lb plastic bags containing Q'Delicia de Empanada Beef" and "Q'Delicia de Empanada Meat Gluten Free," as well as 1.25 lb and 6.25 plastic bags containing Q'Delicia de Empanada Chicken" and "Q'Delicia de Empanada Chicken Gluten Free."

  • Del Valle Import and Export LLC, Kenner, LA, is recalling approximately 21,105 lb of raw pork chorizo products that were produced without the benefit of federal inspection. This includes 14 oz. plastic tub containers of "Chorizo Olanchano Mezcla de Chorizo CentroAmericano Centro American Brand Chorizo Mix." Another recall for the same products was updated to include distribution in Alabama and Florida.

  • Mrs. Pasta, Fort Lauderdale, FL, is recalling approximately 4,544 lb of frozen meat products that were produced without the benefit of federal inspection.

Without benefit of reinspection

  • Olymel, importer of record in Boucherville, Quebec, CAN, is recalling approximately 11,016 lb of ready-to eat ham products that were not presented for import reinspection into the US. Products include 12 lb. vacuum-packed Red Cross Hatch Packages containing "Extra Lean Celebrity 96% fat free imported ham water added," with lot code 23208, 23212 or 23221.

Ineligible for import

  • Capitology LLC, importer of record in Charlotte, NC, is recalling approximately 4,679 lb of pork chicharrones products. The products were imported from Honduras, a country ineligible to export pork products to the US. Products affected are 5.3-oz foil pouch packages containing "Rica Sula Tajaditas Con Chicharron Platanos Con Chicharron."

  • East Coast Food Distributors Inc., the importer of record in Hudson, NH, is recalling about 7,767 lb of pork chicharrones products. The products were imported from Colombia, a country ineligible to export meat products to the US. Affected products are: 165-G foil pouch packages with "De Todito BBQ Para Compartir," UPC code 7702189057624; 45-G foil packages of "De Todito BBQ" with UPC 7702189019646; 165-G foil pouch packages with "De Todito Natural Para Compartir," UPC code 7702189057617; 45-G foil pouch packages with "De Todita Natural," UPC 7702188901707; 165-G foil pouch packages with "De Todito Limon Para Compartir"; and 45-G foil pouches of "De Todito Limon."

Listeria contamination

  • Phu Huong Food Co., Rosemead, CA, is recalling approximately 602 lb of ready-to-eat beef and chicken meatball products that may be adulterated with Listeria monocytogenes. Products include 11 oz. vacuum-sealed packages containing "Bo Vien Phu-Huong Gan Beef Meatballs (with Beef Tendons) (Chicken added/Co Ga)" with lot codes 200101 through 200124.

  • Don Miguel Foods, Dallas, TX, is recalling approximately 10,642 lb of frozen ready-to-eat carne asada burrito products that may be adulterated with Listeria monocytogenes. This affects 7 oz. individual wax paper packages of "Don Miguel Hand Made Burrito Carne Asada" with date code D23270.

  • A public health alert was issued due to concerns that ready-to-eat ham products produced by Sunnyvalley Smoked Meats, Manteca, CA, may be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes. Products affected are: 4 lb. (average weight) vacuum-packed clear plastic packages containing "Kirkland Signature Applewood Smoked Master Carve Half Ham Boneless with Natural Juices" with use/freeze by date of Jan. 20, 2024 and Lot Number 264-4.
