USDA Recall Report: August 2023
Meat, egg, and poultry recalls for the month.
August 31, 2023
There were seven recalls through the month of August by the USDA’s Food Safety and Inspection Service.
Two recalls were due to mislabeling/undeclared allergens, two were without benefit of inspection, one for possible E. coli, one for possible lettuce contamination, and one other for possible foreign matter contamination.
Here is the breakdown:
Mislabeling/Undeclared Allergens
A public health alert was issued for fresh, fully cooked, ready-to-eat (RTE) ShopRite brand chicken noodle soup products due to misbranding and undeclared allergens. The product labeled as chicken noodle soup may actually contain Italian-style wedding soup, which contains milk, an allergen, and it is not declared on the product label. The affected product: 20-oz. plastic cups labeled “A Shoprite Brand bowl & basket Chicken Noodle Soup” with a use by date of “09/23/23.”
A public health alert was issued for Wegmans Jamaican Jerk-style, raw, marinated chicken products due to misbranding and undeclared allergens. The marinade in the chicken products may contain milk. Products include: 1 con1 lb. vacuum-packed plastic packages of “Wegmans Jamaican Jerk Style Chicken Thighs and 1 lb. vacuum-packed packages of Wegmans Jamaican Jerk Style Chicken Breast Cutlets, use date of 9/6/23.
Possible E. coli
Dean & Peeler Meatworks, Poth, TX, had approximately 1,835 lb of fresh ground beef products recalled that may be contaminated with E. coli. The impacted products were produced on August 22, 2023, and include 1-lb., 5-lb., and 10-lb. vacuum-sealed plastic bags containing "Peeler Farms Wagyu Beef Ground Beef," lot code 17836; 5-lb. vacuum-sealed plastic bags containing "R-C Ranch Texas Craft Meats Wagyu RC 13610 Steakhouse Blend – Ground Beef 5 lb," lot code 17816; and 8-oz. vacuum-sealed plastic bags containing " R-C Ranch Texas Craft Meats Wagyu RC – Ground Beef Patties 8 oz," lot code 17816.
Without benefit of inspection
Bellboy Import Corp., the importer of record located in Saint Charles, MN, is recalling approximately 551 lb of frozen, raw pork products that were not presented for import reinspection into the US. This affects: 55.12-lb cardboard boxes of vacuum-packed packages containing Aurora brand “Frozen Pork Belly, Sheet Ribbed, Skin On” with production dates between 19/06/2023-26/06/2023 and shipping mark 308161.
E.N.A. Meat Packing, Paterson, NJ, is recalling approximately 58,721 lb of frozen, raw halal beef tripe, beef feet, and lamb tripe products that were produced without the benefit of federal inspection. Products include: Approx. 30-lb. cardboard boxes containing “E.N.A. Meat Packing Corp. Halal Beef Tripe (green tripe)”; approx. 25-lb. cardboard boxes containing “E.N.A. Meat Packing Corp. Halal Beef Feet”; and approx. 30-lb. cardboard boxes containing “E.N.A. Meat Packing Corp. Halal Lamb Tripe,”
Possible lettuce contamination
A public health alert was issued due to concerns that ready-to-eat (RTE) salads and wraps with meat and poultry may contain contaminated lettuce. The lettuce, which is regulated by the FDA, may be contaminated with deer feces. FSIS is issuing the alert to ensure consumers are aware that this product should not be consumed.

8.5-oz. Plastic Clam Shell Packages containing “Chicken Caesar Salad Fresh Seasons Kitchen,” lot code 21323, fresh thru date 8/9/23
8.55-oz. Plastic Clam Shell Packages containing “Chef Salad Fresh Seasons Kitchen,” lot code 21323 and 21423 and sell by dates 8/9/23 and 8/10/23
5.85-oz. Plastic Clam Shell Packages containing “Bacon, Lettuce and Tomato Salad Fresh Seasons Kitchen,” lot code 21323 and 21423, sell by dates 8/9/23 and 8/10/23
Possible foreign matter contamination
A public health alert has been issued due to concerns of a raw beef product that may be contaminated with extraneous material, specifically soft, clear plastic. The product is by Cargill Meat Solutions and affects: Approx. 1.5-lb. plastic tray packages containing “USDA Choice Black Angus Beef from Aldi, Beef for Carne Picada” with a use or freeze by date of Aug. 22, 2023.
