Tyson Prepares to Cut 200 Positions at Poultry Plant

The separations are part of an effort to shift production from frozen food to prepared meals at the Kentucky plant.

American protein products supplier Tyson Foods is gearing up to decrease the headcount of its poultry plant in Robards, KY, according to local news organizations. The company plans to cut some 200 jobs at the location.

“Due to growing demand, beginning Jan. 24, 2022, we are shifting our product mix to reflect consumer behaviors and meet the needs of our customers. Unfortunately, this change in product mix will result in reducing our workforce at that facility,” Tyson said in a statement to television news station WFIE. The company plans to offer impacted workers positions at its facilities in Humboldt, TN and Shelbyville, TN.

Operations at the site are shifting from frozen foods production to prepared foods manufacturing, according to news broadcaster WEHT.

The move comes after Tyson recently revealed plans to invest about $1 billion in automation technologies for its facilities by 2024.

Records reviewed by The Henderson Gleaner indicate that about 1,200 workers were employed at the location as of 2016.
