Contract and private label food manufacturing company SK Food Group is preparing to invest $18 million open a second production facility in Columbus, OH to meet the demands of its existing customers and add capacity to accommodate new business.

“SK Food Group has grown significantly since our original Ohio plant opened in Groveport, so we are excited to continue that trajectory here in collaboration with our great partners in the region,” the company’s chief executive officer, Steve Booker, said in a recent release issued by a local economic development organization. “The region has provided phenomenal access to our customers in the Midwest, and we have been able to access a great pool of talent here in Columbus.”

A 144,000-sq-ft facility will be leased in Columbus’ Groveport area that will house cold storage for ready-to-eat product manufacturing. The company plans to use the investment to acquire new equipment, machinery, and make improvements to the leased structure.

“We are excited that SK Food Group is committing to bringing more than 300 new jobs to the west side of Columbus,” said City of Columbus Mayor Andrew J. Ginther in a statement. “SK Food Group is a great employer and member of our business community, and we appreciate the new career opportunities that this expansion will create for residents of the city and region.”

SK Food Group was established in 1942 as a mobile catering business. The firm currently manufactures handcrafted sandwiches, wraps, protein snacks, flatbreads, burgers, and other products at nine facilities in North America. Its existing 180,000-sq-ft plant in Groveport opened in 2013.
