Ontario-based pet treats firm The Crump Group Inc. is preparing to expand production with the opening of its first US manufacturing facility. The company is committing $13.2 million to open a new manufacturing and distribution facility in Nashville, NC, according to a release issued Tuesday by the office of North Carolina Gov. Roy Cooper.
“We’re thrilled with the opportunity to make North Carolina our home in the USA,” the firm’s CEO, Margot Crump, said in a statement. “Knowing that ‘Made in the USA’ resonates with American consumers provided a great deal of incentive to continue our growth trajectory with this expansion. When considering options as to where to locate, it was an easy decision thanks to the state’s proactive approach in attracting new business.”
The Crump Group is one of the biggest manufacturers of air-dried pet treats and sells its products through specialty, grocery, and mass supermarket channels. Its decision to open the facility in Nashville stems from the location’s proximity to North Carolina-grown sweet potatoes, a major ingredient in its offerings, and the site’s strategic position in the eastern US.
“Eastern North Carolina is perfect for this Canadian company’s first manufacturing facility in the United States,” said Gov. Cooper in the release. “We have great workers, an excellent transportation network, and the best sweet potatoes in the world along with other raw materials, and we love our pets.”
North Carolina’s Economic Investment Committee approved a Job Development Investment Grant (JDIG) to support the project. About 160 new positions will be created with the opening of the facility.
