The US Department of Labor’s Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) has issued a new poster listing safety tips that employers can follow to help protect meat packing, poultry and pork workers from exposure to coronavirus.

The poster highlights nine infection prevention measures employers can implement during the coronavirus pandemic. Safety measures include encouraging sick workers to stay home; maintaining at least 6 feet of distance between workers; installing partitions along the production line; discouraging workers from sharing equipment and tools and avoiding the gathering of workers during break periods.

In addition to English and Spanish, the poster is available for download in 15 languages, including Somali, Brazilian Portuguese, French, and Korean.

The posters are the latest effort by OSHA to educate and protect America’s workers and employers during the coronavirus pandemic. OSHA has also published Guidance on Preparing Workplaces for COVID-19, a document aimed at helping workers and employers learn about ways to protect against the ongoing pandemic.

A new report issued by the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) this week found 16,233 meat and poultry processing workers have become infected with the virus through May 31. The authors said the high density of workers in meat processing facilities makes controlling the virus’ spread more difficult than other work environments.
