Food and beverage manufacturer Nestle USA created five new supply chain-focused apprenticeship programs that will allow participants to obtain on-the-job training while working on approaches to tackling ongoing supply chain challenges and labor gaps.
Part of the company’s Project Opportunity, the Department of Labor registered programs will more than double the number of Nestle apprentices by 2025. Nestle is partnering with Fastport to develop the experiences as a National Apprenticeship Program.
“For Nestle, developing and retaining a skilled workforce that’s fit for the future is imperative for our business growth,” Jim Wells, chief supply chain officer for Nestle USA, said in a recent company release. “The supply chain industry is innovating rapidly with the use of new technology and having the right people with the right capabilities will help move the industry forward.”
The programs provide opportunities outside of skilled maintenance trades, like entry level Industrial Truck operators and entry level logistics apprenticeships for budding supply chain professionals. Nestle also intends to launch its first managerial level apprenticeship for distribution center supervisors.
