Confectionary, snacks, and foodservice products supplier Mount Franklin Foods announced Wednesday that construction has started on a 280,000-sq-ft expansion project at its candy manufacturing plant in San Jeronimo, Mexico that is intended to help the company meet rising demand for its core goods.

“We are pleased to announce the expansion of our San Jeronimo facility, increasing our capacity by 140 million lb/yr, which will double our current capability,” Enrique Grajeda, president and chief executive officer of Mount Franklin Foods, said in a statement. “The new facility is being built to house additional mogul production for soft candy items, such as gummies and jellies, and will enable us to meet increasing customer demand as we continue to innovate with the development of exciting new products.”

San Jeronimo is a port of entry into the US near Santa Teresa, NM. The location, originally opened in 2020, is also close to the company’s headquarters in El Paso, TX.

“Expanding our manufacturing capabilities allows us to stay on the leading edge of technology so we can be an even more robust resource for our customers,” said Grajeda. “This expansion gives us both the ability to better serve our customers today and the room to support our future growth initiatives.”

Work on the addition is slated to reach completion in January 2024. About 400 new jobs will be created through the effort.
