Mondelez Marks 130 Years of Operations at Ohio Flour Mill

American food firm Mondelez International held an event on October 8 to celebrate 130 years of operations at its flour mill in Toledo, OH that was attended by local and state officials, employees, and members of the community.

The Ohio facility is the biggest soft-wheat mill in North America and features a grain storage capacity of 5.5 million bu of wheat. Production started at the mill in 1892 and the facility was acquired by The National Biscuit Co. (Nabisco) in 1926.

“Our Toledo Flour Mill has been a valuable part of our U.S. baking footprint for more than a century, and I am proud to join this celebration with the many dedicated employees who have been part of our business for many years and have helped make this important milestone possible,” Claudio Parrotta, SVP and Chief Supply Chain Officer, North America at Mondelēz International, said in a company release.

Flour made at the facility is used in a number of iconic products, including Ritz Crackers and Oreo and Chips Ahoy! Cookies. Tools for flour analysis developed at the plant have become industry standards.

Mike DeWine in a statement. “As the largest soft flour mill in the United States, the Toledo Flour Mill provides flour all over North America to make delicious snacking products. Mondelez’s mill processes about 1,000 acres of wheat each day into over 1,500 tn of flour. The plant currently has a headcount of 100 full-time workers.
