Nutritional ingredients manufacturer Milk Specialties Global (MSG) announced that it is taking possession of a processing plant in Clara City, MN as part its acquisition of Kay Processing Inc. and the Kay’s Naturals consumer brand, a recent company release announced. The company plans to expand the site to increase its capacity for extruded protein products.
“There is a lot of potential to ramp up production and increase capacity at our new Clara City facility, including more co-manufacturing,” Jim Fischer, vice president of Extrusion Technology and Strategy for MSG, said in a statement. “This acquisition will expand our extruded protein capabilities and help us better meet the needs of our customers.”
Over the past several years, MSG has expanded its manufacturing assets through a series of strategic acquisitions and expansion projects. Last year the firm doubled lactose production at its Visalia, CA processing facility. In early 2021, MSG finished work on a improvement project at its Fond Du Lac, WI facility to add production capabilities for lactoferrin.
“MSG has one of the best protein supply chains in the world and great infrastructure for producing high-quality products,” said the company’s CEO, David Lenzmeier, in the release. “With each investment, we can add more value for our customers.”
