Personnel from nine fire departments responded to a massive blaze Tuesday afternoon at the Grain Craft flour mill in Pendleton, OR that burned into the early hours of Wednesday. Officials said the structure was destroyed during the incident.

City County Dispatch sent first responders to the facility after getting a report of black smoke at the site around 3 p.m., according to a Pendleton Police Department press release. Crews were able to swiftly douse a small fire, but flames reignited in dry grain at 4 a.m., engulfing the building.

“Although the building is a total loss, this will be an ongoing emergent situation due to the amount of grain that is slow burning,” the Pendleton Police Department said in a statement Wednesday. “There have not been any reported injuries.”

Residents living near the flour mill were urged to remain away from the area during the response.

“The mill has suffered substantial damage,” Grain Craft said in a statement quoted by World Grain. “We are still working to understand the sitatuon.”
