Scents and ingredients maker International Flavors & Fragrances (IFF) held a virtual grand event on November 17 to mark the completion of an $87 million project to expand its flavors manufacturing site in Karawang, Indonesia.
The facility at the Karawang International Industrial City is IFF’s largest manufacturing asset in Greater Asia, housing production capabilities for liquid compounds, powders, emulsions, and spray dried products. During the project, the company outfitted the location with modern infrastructure and technology to increase efficiency, safety, quality, and traceability.
“This market is dynamic and in need for differentiated products. Consumers in Asia are expected to account for half of global consumption growth in the next decade, making the growth potential more of a reality than ever before,” said Nicolas Mirzayantz, president of IFF’s Nourish division, in a company release.
A number of sustainability-oriented initiatives were also launched at the Karawang plant during the project, including lowering the site’s greenhouse gas emissions, energy and water use, and hazardous waste. Additional capacity will help the company serve customers in South East Asia and North Asia.
“The vision for IFF is to be the partner for essential solutions. That means we are committed to leading throughout our global value chain and accelerating our pursuit of new, creative and integrated solutions,” the firm’s chief executive officer and chairman, Andreas Fibig, said in a statement. “This investment reflects our confidence and ambition in the region. For the past ten years, IFF has made significant investments in Asia as we’ve expanded our footprint in China, Singapore, India, and most recently, Indonesia.”
