Hostess Recalls Buns for Possible Contamination
The food firm said certain varieties of hamburger and hot dog buns may contain Listeria monocytogenes and Salmonella.
American food firm Hostess Brands LLC issued a voluntary recall on August 13 for certain Hostess White Hamburger Buns and Soft White Hot Dog Buns because the products are possibly contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes and Salmonella, according to an annoucement posted to the US Food and Drug Administration’s (FDA) website.
“Hostess is recalling the impacted products out of an abundance of caution after becoming aware of this issue from its co-manufacturer, Best Harvest Bakeries, through Best Harvest Bakeries’ environmental monitoring program,” the company wrote in the notice.
32 batch codes of Hostess Soft White Hamburger Buns and 16 batch codes of Hostess Soft White Hot Dog Buns are involved in the recall. The impacted products were sold to distributors, convenience stores, and other retailers throughout the country.
Listeria monocytogenes and Salmonella are organisms that can cause serious infections that could lead to death. Hostess said no other products are affected by the recall.
Those in possession of the possibly tainted buns are advised to throw the goods away or return the items to the place of purchase for a refund.
Powder & Bulk Solids reported in August 2020 that Hostess initiated two voluntary recalls for a number of batches of its Raspberry Zingers because of concerns that mold may develop before the products’ best by date. The company announced the first recall of 11 batches of Raspberry Zingers on July 20. Another voluntary recall was announced on August 25, including an additional 31 batches.
