Mexican-style cheeses, chorizos and cremas manufacturer Cacique Inc. is moving forward on plans to open a new $88 million food processing facility in Amarillo, TX, according to a recent release issued by the Texas Economic Development Corporation (TEDC). The project is expected to create 187 positions.

“After an extensive, national search, we are happy to select Amarillo, TX as the location of our new state-of-the-art manufacturing facility. We are grateful to the Governor’s office, Randall County, and the City of Amarillo for their hospitality, work, and support throughout this site selection process and in helping us usher in the next era of growth for our company,” Gil de Cardenas, the company’s CEO, said in a statement. “From our first visit, we knew that Amarillo was special. It’s a vibrant, thriving, and diverse melting pot of cultures and we’re thrilled to become a part of this local community as we put down some new Cacique family roots in the great state of Texas.”

A groundbreaking event was scheduled for June 3. Cacique is receiving a grant of $1.13 million from the Texas Enterprise Fund (TEF) to support the project.

“Amarillo is a natural home for Cacique, as the Texas Panhandle is a magnet for the manufacturing and food processing industries,” Texas Gov. Greg Abbott said in the release. “Thank you to Cacique for choosing to invest in the Lone Star State. I look forward to working with them as we usher in a more prosperous future for all Texans.”
