Grain Dryer Fire Causes $53K in Damage

A machine was damaged and several hundred bushels of corn was destroyed in a blaze at a facility in White, SD Tuesday night. Personnel from the White Fire Department and the Brookings County Sheriff’s Department were called to the location at the intersection of 206^th Street and 479^th Avenue at about 8:20 p.m.

“Upon arrival, crews found fire within the grain inside the Farm Fan Inc. grain dryer,” the sheriff’s department wrote in a release. “The dryer and approx[imately] 500bu corn inside were damaged from the fire.”

Officials estimate that the fire left $53,000 in damage. The cause of the fire is currently unclear.

Reports did not identify the owner and operator of the facility.
