The projects are growing steadily, with 76 in May compared to 74 in April.

Projects in the Food and Beverage Industry number 76 for the month of May, according to an IMI SalesLeads report. This is only 2 more than in April.

January has had the most since the beginning of the year.

Of the new food and beverage projects, 49 were of processing facilities, and 28 for disitrubtion and industrial warehouses.

The report stated there were 3 new food and beverage construction projects with an estimated value of $100 million or more.


Largest Build

The largest project in the industry is by The Coca-Cola Co., with plans to invest $650 million in constructing a 745,000-sq-ft processing facility in Webster, NY. Construction is expected to start this fall, with completion expected in late 2025.


Top 10 Food & Beverage Projects

ILLINOIS

US Foods foodservice company is planning to invest $103 million for the construction of a 407,000-sq-ft processing facility at 2810 Duke Pkwy. in Aurora. The company is currently seeking approval for the project. 

CALIFORNIA

Supermarket chain Chedraui USA is planning for the construction of a 1.4 million sf distribution center in RANCHO CUCAMONGA, CA. They are currently seeking approval for the project.
Chedraui USA is the parent company of grocers El Super, Smart & Final, and Fiesta Mart. Plans were also announced to open five new stores, remodel 40 more, and develop a 1.4 million-sq-ft distribution center this year. 

FLORIDA

Membership-only grocery and retail chain Sam's Club is planning to invest $61 million for renovation and equipment upgrades on a recently pre-leased 1 million-sq-ft distribution center in Jacksonville.

MICHIGAN

Dairy Distillery, out of Ontario, CAN, is planning to invest $41 million for the construction of a 9,000-sq-ft ethanol processing facility in Constantine. It turns milk into ethanol. It is currently seeking approval for the project. 

PENNSYLVANIA

Food ingredient manufacturer Shank's Extracts is planning to invest $31 million for the expansion and equipment upgrades at its processing facility in Lancaster. The company is currently seeking approval for the project. Shank’s Extracts received a funding proposal from the Department of Community and Economic Development (DCED) for a $332,000 Pennsylvania First grant and a $166,000 workforce development grant to train employees.

ALBERTA

A food ingredient manufacturer is planning to invest $29 million for the construction of a manufacturing facility in Red Deer County. It is currently seeking approval for the project.

IOWA

A food processing company is planning for equipment upgrades on their 570,000-sq-ft processing facility in Des Moines. Approval for the project is being sought.

KANSAS

Beverage distributor Standard Beverage Corp. is planning to invest $14 million for the construction of an 83,000 sf warehouse and office facility at 16800 W 113th St. in LENEXA, KS. They have recently received approval for the project.

NEW YORK

Ferraro Foods, a specialty food distributor, is planning to invest $12 million for the renovation and equipment upgrades on a recently leased 231,000-sq-ft distribution center in Edgewood. The company will relocate regional operations upon completion in late 2023. Ferraro will be relocating from about 50,000 sq ft it has been leasing in Melville. 

VIRGINIA

Greenswell Growers indoor farming company is planning for the expansion of their processing facility at 1343 Hockett Rd. in MANAKIN-SABOT, VA by 93,000 sf. Construction is expected to start in late Summer 2023.
