Bakery food products manufacturer Flowers Foods issued a voluntary recall on October 31 for several types of its Tastykake multi-pack cupcakes due to concerns that the products may potentially be contaminated with small pieces of metal mesh wire. The company expanded the recall on Wednesday to include several other types of Tastykake products.
“As a precautionary measure, the company is voluntarily recalling certain Tastykake multi-pack cupcakes and certain Krimpets products due to the potential presence of tiny fragments of metal mesh wire,” the company wrote in an announcement posted to the US Food and Drug Administration’s (FDA) website November 4. “The recall was initiated following notification by a vendor of the possible contamination in a supplied ingredient and is being amended following additional notification from the vendor.”
The potentially tainted products were distributed to retailers in Delaware, New York, Pennsylvania, Virginia, Washington DC, Maryland, and West Virginia.
Flowers Foods said it has not received any reports of injuries or illnesses linked to the products. Customers are urged to throw the products away or return them to the place of purchase for a refund.
