Fire Interrupts Production at Diamond Pet Foods Plant

WLTX said an electrical fire disrupted operations for several hours at the dog and cat food manufacturing site in Gaston, SC.

A fire ignited Friday morning at the Diamond Pet Foods production facility in Gaston, SC, forcing workers to evacuate and disrupting operations at the site for several hours, CBS News affiliate WLTX reported.

The blaze broke out in an electrical room at the plant at about 8:15 a.m., a company spokesperson told the news broadcaster. Production was at a standstill for about four hours while firefighters doused the flames and examined the scene.

Diamond Pet Foods said in the report that equipment in the electrical room was somewhat new. No injuries were reported, according to WLTX. An investigation into the cause of the blaze is ongoing.

The company produces a range of dog and cat food products at the Gaston location and plants in Lathrop, CA, Ripon, CA, and Dumas, AR.
